The Island

I awake to the gentle rocking of the boat, and slowly rise, accompanied with a headache. I quickly remember the ship sinking, and hurriedly running to a lifeboat. No one was with me. I see nothing but the blue expanse, until I shift my view to see the island that was to my back. It looks to be a great tropical island.

I see two peaks, just the tips of some great mountains. Lowering my view, I notice they are swallowed up by another sea. This ocean is similar to the one I'm in, but green, for it is a sea of trees. I seem to be caught in the local current, carried by the gentle, rocking waves. Soon, the waves are more vicious, and I exit my dingy. The water is cool, and feels soothing to my sunburnt skin.

I see fish darting around my legs, and try to guide my boat ahsore. I'm careful to watch the waves, knowing that a strong wave might cause the small boat to hit me, or break. I feel the gravelly bottom of the surf, and begin walking onto the beach. I drag the boat far up on the sand, and start walking inland.

I'm glad for my shoes, because the ground seems to be riddled with the roots of the great trees, coming up to the surface, after being underground for so long. I raise my view, and am greeted with the sight of fruit and coconuts. I wonder if I'm on the set of a movie, because, I see a primely placed spring. I hope it is fresh water, and tentatively move closer to the water. Crouching down, I lower and raise my cupped hands, and taste some of the most delicious water I've ever been blessed to sip.

I only now notice that there are smells as well, the salty air, lazily wafting inland. I smell the wood, and small pieces of rotting fruit, already set upon by the ants. I hear the surf, gently coming in, but out farther, waves crashing upon themselves. I hear the various calls of the tropical birds, and hear the foliage and fallen branches shifting, breaking, and creating their own music for me. And finally I hear my voice, "Beautiful".
